FAQ!
Frequently Asked Questions!
Q) So how does my character end up in the game?
A) By random Stargate. Your character starts off being spit out of the Stargate into the Destiny Gateroom. They have no idea what just happened, and no-one on Destiny knows either...
Q) When are apps and reserves open?
A) Reserves will open at the beginning of the month for two weeks. Apps will open at the end of the month for one week. We will aim to respond to all apps by the end of the following week, once they're closed.
Q) What about when I get accepted?
A) We will ask you to submit your character information to the Taken Character and Player Contact pages and join the communities

Q) What kind of characters can I apply for here?
A) Pretty much any! We welcome canon characters, AUs, OCs, and characters with previous game memories! The only real stipulation is that they are able to fit through the Stargate/on the ship. Characters may become "humanised" due to the Stargate, or shrunk down to anywhere between six and seven feet tall. Of course, if you want to AU them to be human, that is plausible, too. AI characters can also be humanised, or uploaded into Destiny's mainframe.
Q) What about multiple versions of the same character?
A) As long as there is a concise difference between the two that would make each version unique. For example, Tony Stark from the Marvel Cinematic Universe (Earth-19999) is different to his counterpart from the Marvel Mainstream Comics Universe (Earth-616) in terms of history, events and motivations. We will not accept the same character from different points in canon, however. Non-Canon AUs of characters already accepted will be considered on a case-by-case basis.
Q) What if I choose to upload my AI character into the Mainframe?
A) Destiny's mainframe and native AI has limited interactive capability over the crew. The Destiny Neural Link is one of the only ways an AI can interact with others. Please be aware that the Destiny AI is the be-all-end-all in that domain. Host minds/AI will not be able to control ship's functions.
Q) I only know the basics/next to nothing about the Stargate series, can I still join?
A) Of course! The game takes place aboard Destiny, and while we will deal with familiar themes, places and characters from the various Stargate series', all necessary information to enjoy the game is provided.
Q) I get the premise, but what's the plot of the game?
A) We'll be pretty much following the basic set up of Stargate: Universe. Along with the day to day struggles of trying to survive with a bunch of strangers on an ancient ship that's not in full working order or fully stocked, there will be planets to explore, new races of aliens to encounter, and numerous mysteries connected to the ship's mission. There will be a blend of stressful slice of life, mystery, action, and science fiction. Which does include sci-fi themed horror on occasion.
Q) What's the time ratio?
A) 1:1 - one real life day equals one IC day. Ship-time will be based on Earth days due to there being no real time in space. 24 hours = 1 day. This, of course, can be flexible to suit player needs.
Q) What about AC? What kind of activity check is there?
A) AC is bi-annual! Yes, you read that right! Once every six months we'll ask for six counts of activity for each character! This will need to be spread out over the six months, however. We will not accept all six counts in one, or two months.
There are no fixed comment counts, but we will not accept threads that only have one or two comments.
If there are extenuating circumstances regarding why you can't make AC, let one of the mods know, and we can sort something out.
Q) Life just got real really fast, and I need to take a break. How do I hiatus?
A) Post here. This also acts as the Drop post, in case you need to leave us.
Every full month you hiatus, you will not need to provide a piece of AC. This stretches to two months, and they can be non-consecutive. For example, if you take a hiatus in September, and also need one in January, you will only need to provide four peices of activity.
Q) Is there a character limit?
You may have up to 8 characters, and can app two characters in an application round.
Q) What if I want to app an SGU character, like Camille or Greer?
A) Please do! All other actual major crew members are still in stasis! When apped in, they'll be woken up!
Q)What's the posting format?
A) Log and network! Logs will likely be dominant, but there are many options for network style communication when needed! Ship consoles and kinos (round flying recording devices) provide video communication, and handheld radios offer a voice to voice option.
Q) What are those communication stones mentioned in the premise?
A) Communication stones are an invention of the Ancients, that allow two people to essentially swap consciousness. When two people use a set at once, their minds are switched through the stones. It's how the crew communicates with SGC back on Earth. You can read more detailed information on them here!
Q) Is there a power cap/limit? What if I want to app someone with strong magic/powers?
A) Powers will be capped whilst on Destiny. This is a precaution the in-game Ancient will take to prevent damage to the ship. All supernatural powers, barring ones needed to survive, will be locked out whilst the person is on Destiny. Everyone will be restricted to what they would be like as a human. Someone with Super Strength, for example, would be reduced to being the apex of human strength for their age group, etc.
Off-ship, powers will be restored.
Please be aware that this will affect weapons or items that use a character's power source, or a natural energy present in a character's canon.
Q) What about advanced technology, such as a bag that holds anything, or a death ray?
A) These items will work, but will not work as intented, or blow back occasionally. Weapons may sputter and die, or misfire, iventory solutions may not hold as much as they should, or randomly regurgitate items.
These effects will not apply off-ship.
Q) My Character uses Mana, or another naturally-occuring power source on their own planet. Will they be able to use their powers when off-world?
A) When gating off-ship, your character will notice that they can still use these abilities. This will be due to having access to something similar, but not exactly the same as, the energy source from their home universes. This changes from planet to planet. It is up to player discretion if your character can tell the difference or not.
Q) What about Vampires, or other races who need sustenance other than food?
A) Vampires can likely be sustained on donated blood, if necessary, but it's preferrable to have appable characters be able to exist on standard human food. If there are any other characters with specific dietary requirements, ask us, and we can see about trying to accomodate.
Q) My character died. What do I do?!
A) There will be NO in-game resurrection provided by the game mechanics. Death is permanent. If your character dies, they will die for good, unless there is a character available who can revive them with their canonical abilities. This will only apply when off the ship.
Q) What if you didn't answer my question?
A) Drop it in a comment here! We're sure there are things that will pop up.
